Finding Unity Township Residents
Unity Township is a second-class township, not a city that runs one household register. Its local government keeps planning, building, zoning, code, meeting, and public-staff files. Westmoreland County holds the core parcel, deed, probate, court, and election channels in Greensburg. Pennsylvania supplies statewide court, vital, and registration services. That division matters because a Unity Township residents directory result describes a relationship to a property, an event, or a record. It does not create a complete picture of a private household.
Choose the route that fits the question. County assessment is a useful current parcel lead. The Recorder ties parties to recorded documents. A library book can place a household in a past period. A court or estate index can support a narrow name question. No single record proves current occupancy, and a name match needs a second identifying detail.
- Search County property data by owner, parcel, or location.
- Use GIS to note the parcel, UPI, municipality, and 911 address.
- Take owner and legal-description clues to the Recorder.
- Compare a relevant historical, court, or estate source.
- Ask the named custodian for a defined record when the online route stops.
Unity Township Property Search
The Westmoreland County Real Property Search is the official address-based starting point. It searches the current tax duplicate by parcel number, owner name, and property location. The county asks name searchers to use all or part of a last name without commas or periods. Location searches should omit a directional prefix or suffix and street type unless it is part of the street name. A name and location can be combined to reduce a broad result.
| Search key | What it leads to | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Parcel number | County parcel record | The correct identifier is needed |
| Owner name | Current owner-associated tax record | Owner and resident may differ |
| Location | Property-location record route | Address strings can vary |
The public dataset refreshes in late January and late June. It is therefore a dated assessment source rather than live confirmation of who is at a property. The County GIS and 911 route is the next check when a result needs a UPI, parcel boundary, or displayed 911 address.
Unity Township Records Offices
Each keeper answers a distinct question. The Recorder follows documents. Assessment connects a tax record to a parcel. The Register of Wills handles estate, marriage, and Orphans’ Court records. Township offices hold specific municipal project and administrative files. Beginning with the correct keeper makes a Unity Township residents directory search more useful and avoids asking an office to create an unfocused person list.

Unity Township’s staff directory locates Planning, Building, Code, Tax, and administration contacts. It is a directory of public offices, not private residents.
Westmoreland Deed Names
The Recorder reports an online deed index from 1850 to the present. Its public access service offers Name, Advanced/Legal, Instrument, and Archives searches after a disclaimer acknowledgement. Advanced/Legal criteria can include municipality, UPI, tax map number, subdivision, lot, document type, and consideration when those fields exist. The Recorder does not advertise an ordinary street-address search. Translate an address into a parcel, owner, legal description, lot, or UPI first.
Records before November 13, 2000 use Book and Page. Archives Search supports older books and plan books. Tax-map numbers were not required until 2009, so their absence in an older record is expected. The Pennsylvania Archives guide supplies a longer historical fallback, with Westmoreland deeds from 1773 to 1897 and grantor/grantee indexes from 1773 to 1900.
The Recorder office is the research and copy fallback shown here.
The index is a catalogue to recorded documents, so its result should be read with the document and the custodian’s copy procedure.
Unity Township Municipal Files
The Building Department posts forms for building, occupancy, demolition, signs, inspections, manufactured homes, and related activity. The Planning Office handles subdivision, land-development, and grading submissions. Code Enforcement publishes a complaint form. These are form collections, not searchable public permit or code-result databases. A request should identify an address, approximate dates, and the particular document type.
A permit, plan, inspection, or code file can document official property activity. It cannot establish everyone who lived there, because applicant, contractor, owner, and occupant may be different people. Unity’s Open Records Officer is Sharon Sweeney at 154 Beatty County Road, Latrobe, PA 15650, 724-539-2546, sharon@unitytownship.org. The Township Right-to-Know notice provides the request channel.
Unity Township’s official website directs research to these departments.
The municipal layer adds local file routes after county parcel and Recorder research identifies the property.
Current Unity Township Sources
Current sources are separate records with distinct limits. Property data, GIS mapping, document indexes, voter services, and public staff listings each show a different relationship. A reliable Unity Township residents directory search does not force those records into a single household list.
| Source | What it associates | Access boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Property tax duplicate | Owner, parcel, property location | Free, semiannual update |
| GIS and 911 route | Parcel geometry, UPI, municipality | Base map free, linked cards paid |
| Recorder index | Document parties and history | Not a household list |
| Registration status | Individual status route | Not public street browsing |
| Township staff listing | Public departmental contacts | Not resident data |
Westmoreland’s public-record searches hub gathers many county custody paths.
The hub is a useful starting directory, while each underlying record retains its own dates, fields, and copy rules.
Unity Township Voter Limits
Pennsylvania’s registration-status service is intended for an individual status check, not open map or by-street browsing. Westmoreland Elections holds the local registration file. The state voter-list request form describes controlled public-information, street-list, walking-list, and full-export products. It requires requester details, a selected county, a fee, and an affidavit with stated use restrictions.
Voter information can be dated, maintained, restricted, or protected. Signatures, SURE numbers, and protected-address information are not public. A dated registration record does not confirm a present household. The lawful route is the individual status service or the Elections Office’s procedure for a permitted record request.
Unity Township Court Searches
Pennsylvania UJS Case Search provides free public docket sheets for qualifying Magisterial District, Common Pleas, and appellate cases. Its Search By control includes participant name, docket number, date filed, organization, parcel, and other routes. Choose Westmoreland County where suitable and add a date, court, or docket detail before associating a name with Unity Township. A public docket can show case identity, parties, events, filing entries, and public financial fields.
A matching name is not identity proof. New entries can lag. Juvenile, expunged, limited-access, sealed, and other restricted matters are not public. The separate Westmoreland iJEMS service covers Civil and Family records filed in the Prothonotary office from 1985 forward and allows partial spelling. Copy questions belong with the controlling clerk.
Historical Unity Township Directories
Unity Township has no verified continuous municipal city-directory run. The strongest regional shelf is the Greensburg Hempfield Area Library Pennsylvania Room. Its Greensburg directory microfilm begins in 1909 and is intermittent through 1959. Its print books begin in 1913 and are intermittent through 1992. Greensburg and Latrobe print directories from 2000 forward can offer nearby clues, but their postal-city scope must be checked against Township, census, parcel, church, or cemetery evidence.
The 1890-91 Wiggins directory contains Greensburg names, occupations, residences, and Westmoreland township taxpayer and assessed-property material. Adams Memorial Library’s Dead-a-Base has a Latrobe Bulletin notice index from December 18, 1902. The Unity Township city directory page explains how to use those regional collections without treating them as a complete Township roster.
The Township staff directory is a separate current office reference.
It helps locate a municipal custodian, not private households.
Unity Township Record History
Unity Township reports settlement records from 1760 and formal incorporation in 1789. Westmoreland County was created in 1773. A family or tract missing from later county material can point to Bedford, Cumberland, or Virginia-related sources before Westmoreland existed. The State Archives guide lists assessments, deeds, will books, marriage dockets, and other county records as a research roadmap, not a promise that every series is online.
The Recorder reports that little in its office was computerized as late as January 2000 and that it now scans documents page by page. Older work may require Book and Page, plan books, a research appointment, County GIS historic maps, State Archives guides, or historical-society help.
The Westmoreland Register of Wills is an estate and marriage route.
The office reports estate records from 1773 and marriage-license records from 1885, with older research often based in the office.
Unity Township Address Types
Westmoreland recognizes separate 911, civic, postal or mailing, and tax-billing address strings for one property. A postal Latrobe or Greensburg label can occur for a Unity Township address, and a billing address can be elsewhere. Legal description, UPI, parcel number, municipality, and deed date are stronger connectors when the wording differs. A 2026 county election minute corrected a Unity polling-place address from Lois Lane to Lois Road, a useful warning to verify an exact string.
- Parcel
- A mapped unit of property used in assessment and GIS systems.
- UPI
- A unique property identifier that joins a parcel to county record routes.
- Index
- A finding tool that points to a record rather than always supplying the whole record.
- Criss-cross directory
- An address-arranged directory where a verified collection includes one.
Use the USPS ZIP Lookup for mail routing, then use Unity Township and county parcel tools for jurisdiction and property questions.
Protecting Unity Township Addresses
Pennsylvania protections are record-specific. Current vital certificates have eligibility limits, court rules restrict certain dockets, voter files have protected fields, and the Right-to-Know Law requires some redactions. The Pennsylvania Address Confidentiality Program gives qualifying survivors a substitute address. A missing or redacted result should be accepted as a restriction, not treated as a path around that protection.
Corrections belong with the original keeper: Assessment for a billing route, the Township and County 911 process for an address assignment, the Recorder for a document concern, Elections for registration, Vital Records for certificates, and the court clerk for a docket issue. The Recorder’s free AlertMe service can flag a recorded name, but it does not guarantee a document’s truthfulness or accuracy.
The Recorder AlertMe notice explains this monitored-document service.
Custodial review, not an alert alone, resolves what a name-bearing document means.
Unity Township Vital Record Eras
Vital records are organized by event and date, not a general name directory. Westmoreland reports county birth registers for 1893 to 1905 and incomplete local birth, death, and marriage material for 1852 to 1855. Statewide birth and death registration began in 1906. Pennsylvania transfers birth records to the State Archives 105 years after birth and death records 50 years after death, while current certified copies remain eligibility controlled.
For eligible historical material, use the archive and index route. For a current certified record, use the Department of Health application procedure. An obituary, cemetery entry, or estate index can support a question, but it does not replace the record held by its custodian.
Pennsylvania Vital Records is the official current service.
The service separates eligibility-controlled certificates from historical archival research channels.
When neither a current application nor an archival index reaches the question, Unity Township research still has local fallbacks. The Westmoreland Historical Society accepts focused written research requests for people and families within the modern county boundary from 1773 forward. Its Pollins Memorial Library has noncirculating books, genealogy material, and original local documents. County GIS Map Maintenance also offers a public research area and historical warrant, patent, farm, railroad, highway, cemetery, and tax-boundary maps. Those collections can supply context for an older parcel or family name, but each still requires a date, location, and source-specific reading.
